I was told situations that cause them to stress and squint their eyes have negative effects on eye strength. Hopefully, someone can verify that for us though. I try not to allow my kids to sit to close or too far away from the tv and I give them a diet high in fruits and vegetables such as - green beans - broccoli - carrots - corn - sweet potatoes - yams and celery and so on.

Unfortunately, from what I've been able to gather from my research, carrots and other vegetables are good for your kids, but they won't necessarily prevent vision problems. Nor will keeping them a safe distance from the TV. It won't hurt, but it won't prevent the future need for glasses or contacts, either. It's just a fact of life that when kids reach a certain age, they will most likely need some kind of vision correction. It doesn't mean you're a negligent parent. It means that you're taking care of your children and they're growing. As far as eye problems being genetic, I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised. The best thing you can do for your kids' eye health is to make sure they have a nutritious diet with all the good things suggested above, make sure they get plenty of exercise, and see their eye doctor on a regular basis. I wish you well. |

This is really a good thinking to promote strong eyes among children's but i am admirer of promoting a good over all healthy living habit so that entire body is healthy including the eyes.

Is that really true? If someone is diabetic, let's say, and has a child, can her child prevent the onset of diabetes by taking good care of herself, or is her inheriting the condition inevitable?

Well, jhellie-baby, did you remember the name of the fruit you ate? We're all very curious, you know. Banana? Guava? Starfruit? Kumquat?

Anyway . . . Are you talking about children that are already born, or possible future progeny? |

Since you are an "admirer of promoting a good overall healthy living habit," do you have any suggestions for ways to keep one's eye healthy and possibly even prevent the need for lenses?
