Default Airborne Eye Infection?

I've heard a lot about getting eye infections by touching your eyes with a contaminated finger or contact lens. In other words, direct contact.

Can you get an eye infection from the air? Are there bacteria that can drift on air currents or something and cause mayhem when they land in your eye?

Wow, what a good question. Unfortunately I don't know. Is your eye appointment coming up? I'd be interested to know what the doc says.

I have heard about this too. I do think it is true, that if certain bacteria gets in their you can have an infection, or red eye. I would also believe you could get a build up in your eyes, just like with our bodies breathing in the bad air. I would like to know what an optometrist would say.

Nope I have not become a optometrist, but decided to research this question and found a link to a sight that talks about the health of eyes. It talks about oxidation of free radicals occurring in the eye which leads to eye diseases and other things. http://www.eyetopics.com/articles/27/1/Eye-Friendly-Vitamins.html

Thanks for the research, cassie, but I'm too lazy to click on the link and I don't want to leave Lens 101. Can you summarize what the article says?

Eye Topics is a good site, though. I've gotten some good information from there. Maybe I'll just take a peek . . .
