Glow in the Dark Contact Lenses

How do these contacts glow? Are they like the things you get with your cereal that have to be held up to the light in order to make them glow? Obviously you can't stare at a light bulb to make the contacts glow, so how do they work?

never heard of glow in the dark contact lenses. they sound neat but i wonder how they would interfere with normal vision at night. I'm not sure I'd want a light source that near my eye while trying to see at night. lol

Only answer I could find online was this:

"Glow in the dark contact lenses are made of luminescent material that allows them to, of course, glow in the dark."

Which isn't really an answer at all, though it's a start.
