    Smile MiraFlow Update

    Hi all,
I'm a long time contact lens wearer and was very happy to have found MiraFlow, the best contact lens cleaner ever. Unfortunately, everywhere I looked, I was informed that MiraFlwo had been discontinued.

That was how I came across the Contact Lenses Forum. Some of the posts indicated that MiraFlow was available from drugstore.com. I went to that site and was unable to find it.

I then went to CIBA Vision, the manufacture of MiraFlow, sent them a message and got the following response:

"Thank you for contacting CIBA Vision Corporation.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience you may have experienced in locating our MiraFlow® Extra-Strength Daily Cleaner. Due to declining market demand, CIBA VISION discontinued MiraFlow effective January 1, 2010. Unfortunately, we will no longer offer a daily cleaner in our product line.
    "
Sorry to disappoint everyone, but this is from the horses mouth.

    Angry MiraFlow Alternatives

I forgot to put in my MiraFlow Update thread that my optometrist suggested that Lobob might be an alternative contact lens cleaner.

Thank you for that valuable information, jlkings. Are you going to try Lobob and report back? I found this picture of a bottle of Lobob and the product is called "CDS" for "Cleaning, Disinfecting and Storage Solution."

    Hi all,

I went to Lobob Labs Product web site and checked out where to buy their products. Rite Aid and Walgreens were listed so I went to Rite Aid and purchased a bottle of EDC (Extra Strength Cleaner). I then tried it out and it seems to work fine.

The main reason that I used MiraFlow was that it was able to remove a film from my rigid gas permeable lens. I don't know if the Lobob EDC will do that but it appears that we don't have a lot of choice.

Since the EDC is extra strength, you need to be certain that you rinse the solution off of your lens before inserting in you eye.

    Regards,

    John

Thanks for telling us about your personal experience John. I'm glad it works for you and I'm glad that Lobob can be found at the local drugstore.

Smile Walgreens Extra Strength Daily Cleaner

While searching for moderate price MiraFlow supply I came across an internet user that recommended Walgreens Extra Strength Daily Cleaner.

I purchased a 1 ounce bottle at Walgreens for $7.99 and was very happy with the result. The formula seems to be very close to that used in MiraFlow.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find that on occasion, Walgreens has a two for one sale of this product.

MIRAFLOW cannot be used with gas permeable lenses as it can damage the surface of rgp materials and render them non wetting.

boston lens advance or lobob optimum ESC are sufficient in cleaning the dirtiiest rpg lenses. If your lenses attract lipid and protein deposits you may need to change material types to address this issue. Dry eyes also tend to deposit more coatings on rgp lenses due to the chemistry of rgp lenses.

Using a dry eye drop frequently such as refresh tears can alleviate deposit formation.

I decided to look for confirmation of your statement that Miraflow is not intended for use with RGP lenses, and here's one of the things I found:

" . . . I would not use Miraflow cleaner. It contains alcohol and may damage the partially hydrated RGP surface (which can be restored by soaking in saline solution.) Use instead Pliagel cleaner or Optimum (the later being the preferred cleaner.)"

My contact lens optometrist was able to fit me with gas permeable contact lens so that I could have 20/20 vision. He recommended that I use Miraflow on my lense because the alcohol would clean the film. He is one of the top contact lens optometrist in southern CA. I'm sure that he wouldn't have recommended Miraflow if it would damage the surface of my lens.

Yes older materials silicone acrylate can be used.....but the newer flourine silicone acrylate are not compatible with cleaners such as miraflow.

Sorry I should have been more clear and no disrespect to your doc..Im an ecp that specializes in rgp materials and that is what the latest research is pointing to.

I went to Drugstore.com and found Lobob, but not Progent--unless I didn't spell it right.

Okay. It's hard to misspell a product's name with the box as a reference.
