Default Glad I found this forum :)

Hello, I'm new in the forum.
I'm from Brazil but I live in US.
I been wearing colored contacts over 15y. I tried many brands in the market and my favorites was Elegance by Ciba it was hand painted (please don't get confused with Natural Touch by Coppervision it looked pretty fake) unfortunately it's discontinued. Since them I have been looking for lenses could replace the natural looks of Elegance used to give to my eyes but I didn't have any success... I ordered FX Eyes called Adrianna, they took over 5 weeks to send me... When it arrived I got very disappointed with the looks, they looked very different then the pics and videos they display in the website, and when you look close you see it's painted, don't have any deepness, looks flat, the pupils doesn't blend, anyway to make the story short I looked like a zombi wearing them, I mean ready for a Hallowen, scary looks... I sent back to tone down, I don't know what the heck they did but they teared one of the lenses and had to replace... Took over two weeks to send me back the lenses toned down. They looks better but I can't say I like them... They look great in pictures(I'm a fitness model) so sometimes I wear it, but if you looking for lenses that you can wear all day forget about those because they are very tick, the maximum I can handle wearing them is 6h, after that everything start to get blurred and hurt my eyes. Honestly they don't worth the price. I going to try to resell them for half price, because I know I won't use it, I like comfort and natural looks.
Right now I wearing Colorblends, I don't like the results, they blend with my dark eyes but at least they are confortable... Anyway, I just ordered Waicon Trikolor after the reviews, pics and videos I saw, I got very impressed by the natural looks. It gave a hope in to find something similar to my so missed Elegance by Ciba.
I hope my review helped.
I'm glad I found this forum

Glad you found the forum, and welcome!

It's really frustrating when the contacts you've worn and loved for many years suddenly become unavailable. There are a lot of us in the same situation, since they discontinued manufacturing a huge number of lenses last year. It's caused a lot of us to look beyond what our doctor's office or favorite online lens seller has to offer. Some people, like yourself, have ended up spending a ton of money on lenses that didn't meet their expectations. It's so much nicer when you can try a sample lens from your doctor to see if you like the fit, comfort, color, etc. before throwing down a bunch of money. I sure hope this situation changes soon, but in the meantime, this forum has been a great place for me to learn about the few colored contact options that are still available.

Let us know how you like your Waicons. I've heard great things about them.

Yes, it sucks waist money like I did.
See a Doctor to try lenses? I don't think so. They have a very narrow choices, and in the top of it each consultation here is a ripoff, I live in US.
Better just get a prescription and research in your own.
Thanks for your advice anyway.

How do you get trial lenses without seeing a doctor? Hopefully it doesn't involve anything sneaky.

I don't think you read correctly what I wrote in my previous message, I said the Doctors offer a narrow choice for trial lenses.
And I don't know what you meaning when you said "involve anything sneaky"???
I buy those lenses to try. If I don't like it I discard, if I like I keep it.

You said "See a Doctor to try lenses? I don't think so." It sounds like you bought them without trying them first. Nothing wrong with that, but Shamrocker had a good point when he or she said "it's so much nicer when you can try a sample lens from your doctor to see if you like the fit, comfort, color, etc. before throwing down a bunch of money."

Sure I agree, but Doctors have very narrow choices, what they have available are the most popular brands such: Colorblends, Acuve, etc... I already tried all of those samples and they are not what I expected.
If you know any Doctor that offer Soloticas, Waicons, FX9mm or other brands let me know, of course I would prefer try a sample then trow way money in something I'm not sure...

Oh, so you've "been there, done that" already have you? Unfortunately I don't know of any doctors that offer free trial pairs of Solotica or Waicon lenses or anything like that. Do any doctors in the US have those lenses for their patients to try?

It wouldn't surprise me. You might want to try one of those on line doctor finder sites. I may be able to give you a doctor's name, but what if her office is a thousand miles away from you?

Let me know the name of the Doc, I travel overseas often for business.
Thanks

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't have anyone particular in mind, that was just an example. Wouldn't you rather narrow it down to a local eye doctor who offers free trial pairs of Solotica or Waicon lenses? Just saying that you "travel overseas" doesn't narrow it down much. There are a lot of seas to travel over.

I think some people having a hard time to understand me, I live in US
Here don't have free trial for Solotica or Waicon...
That's why I said I travel overseas, when you mentioned you knew a Doctor miles away.
I didn't know you was just been sarcastic.

Privateyez's post didn't sound sarcastic to me, but that's not important. I'm just very surprised that you're willing to travel hundreds of miles for a pair of contacts.

If I remember correctly from other posts on Lens 101, Solotica lenses are from Brazil. I looked at a website that sells Waicon lenses, but I couldn't find a clue about where they're from. There's no address or something that simply says "Waicon lenses are manufactured in . . . " The only clue I found was that the price was given in Euros.

Waicons are from Argentina, but the company was recently purchased by Bausch and Lomb, so maybe (pretty please) someday soon they'll be available in the US.

I found this on the Bausch & Lomb website:

Bausch + Lomb Acquires Waicon

Combined Business to Offer the Most Comprehensive and Innovative Eye Health Portfolio in Argentina

FOR RELEASE DECEMBER 1, 2011

ROCHESTER, NY & BUENOS AIRES – Bausch + Lomb, the global eye health company, today announced it has acquired 100 percent of the outstanding shares of Laboratorio Pförtner Cornealent SACIF, the controlling entity of Waicon. Waicon is the Argentinean market leader in contact lenses and lens care products. As a result of this combination, Bausch + Lomb will be the leading eye health company in Argentina.

With broad channel coverage and direct distribution capabilities, Waicon will deepen Bausch + Lomb’s customer access and accelerate its business expansion in this growing market. Likewise, by investing in innovative new technologies, Bausch + Lomb will maximize the value of Waicon’s existing products, while unlocking a pipeline of new products for the Argentinean market.

It sounds more to me like this move was made to sell B & L's products in Argentina rather than sell Waicon's stuff in the US.

On the other hand, what do I know about corporate mergers?
