Default Are OS and OD Contacts made the same?

When buying certain brands of contact lenses sometimes I have to fill in the details of my presciption for each eye (OS and OD). Both of my eyes are exactly the same prescription, however, I am wondering if some companies design their contact lenses specifically for each eye, or can they worn in both eyes? for example, can I purchase OD contacts and wear them in both eyes?

The only reason they specify OD (right) and OS (left) on the prescription is because most people don't have the same prescription in both eyes. If you have the same prescription in both eyes, then I don't see why you can't switch lenses.
