Default Can I change lenses?

I've had my biofinity monthly disposables for a month now and I love them! I can see perfectly! But they're kind of expensive, and I could save $50 if I buy a half-month supply of Frequency 55 instead of Biofinity. My dad says there probably isn't much of a difference, but I'm not convinced. The diameter would be 14.2 instead of 14.0, but I don't think that matters. Has anyone tried switching lenses to save money? Is this a bad idea?

Hi punkyg. Welcome to Lens.com.

You ask some good questions, and now let me see if I can answer them for you.

First of all, if you have a prescription for Biofinity contact lenses, you can't order a different brand. The brand name is part of the prescription. If you try to order Frequency 55 contacts with a prescription for Biofinity, a contact lens supplier that does business legally will call your doctor to see if it's okay if they give you the Frequency 55. Why not just ask your doctor directly?

To compare their composition directly, Biofinity is made of 52% of a polymer called comfilcon A, and 48% water. Frequency 55 contacts are 45% methafilcon A and 55% water. Not very similar at all, so you probably can't use the Frequency 55 contacts.

If you want to save money, try lens.com. They offer Biofinity contact lenses for as low as $25.50 for a box of six contact lenses. Is that less than you're paying now? If so, have your prescription ready and click the red rectangle at the top of this page. That will take you directly to lens.com. If you prefer to call, their number is 1-800 LENS.COM (536-7266).
