Default They Day Before Your Prescription Expires

If you go into the optometrist to get new contacts, and the prescription expires the very next day, can they refuse to give you your contacts until you get a new exam and fitting? Does that sound right?

We don't even need a prescription here, we just buy them at the local pharmacy. But ofcourse it's good to have your eyes checked at least once a year.

So you can get contact lenses at the pharmacy without a prescription? I don't think that's legal, is it?

I don't think they would refuse to give you your contacts. I'm curious, do we always have to see our doctor whenever we change our contact lenses? Would that be advisable?

Where's "here" and how do you get contact lenses without a prescription? That sounds very risky to me. Contact lenses have to fit just right and have the proper corrective power. How do you fit your own contact lenses? If you're not trained for that I can't see how you could select the proper power, sphere, cylinder and axis. How many people on this site even know what those are?
