Hmmm. I hate glasses too! I'm 56, have dry eyes, astigmatism, amblyopia, and quite farsighted. I tried gas permeables (VERY unsuccessfully). I was told then that I was not a good candidate. I decided to try again and they put me in multifocal torics. They had to be special ordered (yeah, even the trials). I was told that I wouldn't be able to wear them for more than 4 hours. Well, I was willing to do that just to be free of my glasses once in a while.
It was quite a lot of trial and error and my vision is not as crisp with glasses, driving while dark is very weird (but I don't have to do that very often), and I do need reading glasses for 10-12 point type books. I can wear them for 16 hours, wear them every day, and while not perfect, it's so worth it. Trying different materials and motivation is really the key. I was highly motivated and am willing to put up with less-than-perfect vision. Dry eyes can make your lenses a little sticky, too. If you have a negative optometrist, hunt for one that is willing to really work with you and good luck!
Keep us posted on your journey, okay?
