Yes and I believed him for years, I have too much tearfluid and once my lense just drifted away, to the back of my eye and had to be taken out by a doctor.

After that I returned to my glasses but a year ago I thought Why not give it another try and now I'm more than happy with my lenses.

I was told to not wear yearly contact lenses because my eyes are too dry. But I told my doctor that I won't be wearing them longer than 6 hours a day, so she agreed. :P

Default Not Suited for Contact Lenses?

Looks like both of you were initially told that you can't wear contacts, but now you are. I'm glad you were persistent. That's good to know.

Let that be a lesson to you, kids. If your eye doctor tells you that you can't wear contacts and you really want to, see if some kind of arrangement can be made, as in the case of me.ga.warui there.

In any case, I wouldn't recommend going against your doctor's advice and wearing them anyway. You can't get them without a prescription, so I wouldn't even bother.

Thank you both for your replies.

My eye doctor was very persistant for me to get contacts. He felt that contacts were much better for me than eye glasses. I did get them and yes, I do see better with them but I'm just not all that comfortable. I'd much rather wear my glasses than my contacts. I think that's because I was wearing glasses for well over 30 years before I even tried contacts. But I am glad that my eye doctor let me know that contacts would be better for my vision.

I have a friend who wears glasses. He was never told that he couldn't wear contacts, he just doesn't see the point since he is nearsighted and takes his glasses off to read and work on the computer. So I guess he's not suited for contacts either.

Was this before or after you were told you were not a good candidate for contact lenses?

At any rate, I'm glad you found some contact lenses that you're happy with. What kind are they? Monthly, right?

I had thought I had heard years ago that I couldn't weaqr contactsbecause of an astigmatism. I wasn't worried at the time because I wasn't interested in contacts. However last year my eye doctor suggested I try them and they work great. Has there been advances in contacts where you used to not be able to use them because of an astigmatism and now you can. Or was I simply mistaken and you could always use contacts with one.

Thanks for your perspective skatss. Sometimes people try contact lenses and they just don't agree with them. They seem to be very much in the minority, but they're out there.
Do you think you'll ever try contacts again?

My problem is kind of different. I wore contacts 10 yrs ago for a short period of time, but my eyes would dry out so I stopped wearing them. Now I am currently trying them out, but can't find one that agrees with my eyes. I have an oblique astigmatism in one eye and the other has an astigmatism, but requires a weak perscription. I have tried

Accuvue Oasys- good vision and comfort, but won't stay in place.
Purevision- Stays in place, good vision, but uncomfortable.
Air Optix- Poor vision, horrible comfort

Now I'm back to the Oasys, waiting for my trial of Biofinity to come in. Any suggestions for picky eyes? I don't want to wear glasses, as they will get scratched in my line of work (mechanic). Also I find myself getting headaches while wearing my contacts, so I had my persciption rechecked and was told it is right on.

Your contact lens drifted to the back of your eye, and you had to have it removed by a doctor? That sounds awful! It wasn't a surgical procedure, was it, jessje?

At least the Oasys lenses are comfortable. I hope you'll come back and tell us how you like the Biofinity lenses.

Biofinity didn't work either. Went to a different eye doctor and got fitted again, they ended up giving me Air Optix. They are tolerable for short periods of time, but if I wear them for more than a few hours they irritate me real bad. I think I'm just gonna go with glasses this time around.

youd be a perfect candidate for rgp lenses, athough they will require an adaptation process, in the end you will achieve hyper clear vision.

its worth a try.

Forgive my ignorance, but if durandetto found that soft lenses "irritate . . . real bad," what makes you think that RGPs will be more comfortable?

They don't require moisture and will not irritate sensitive eyes.

Really? Hard lenses won't irritate sensitive eyes? They must be more comfortable than they sound.

comfort with rgp lenses is solely based on fit....I have dry sensitive eyes, and even with the heat full blast in the car they are super comfortable with absolutely no lens drying symptoms....

u know the cornflake feeling in the eye! you long time lens wearers know what I mean by this.

see thats the thing.....rgp's once fitted properly and adapted to ELIMINATES all those soft lens issues. You'd think otherwise being a "hard lens" but once the adaptation process is over and the lenses fit well.....u don't feel them at all.....the lens dryness issues are non existant with rgp's!

When i put mine on in the morning....after about 5 min or so....u can't feel them at all.

I see what you mean, but I also understand Trixie's confusion. It just sounds weird to say that hard lenses are more comfortable than soft, but since I have no experience, I really can't say.

Maybe it's one of those "once you get used to it" things. You can say that about contact lenses in general.

That's good to know. So how long was this "adaptation process" for you?

Thanks for your reply, luvbostonxo2's. I would imagine that those hard lenses probably don't absorb the moisture from your eyes like soft lenses do.

I can have the heat on high and full blast in the car towards my face with rgp lenses on and NO dryness. If I was wearing soft lenses they would start to burn, dryout and feel gritty within minutes.

RGP's would be better because it will deal with the astigmatism better and can be custom ordered to correct your toric prescription more precisely. Soft contact lenses come like shoe sizes and can fit the masses but there are patients out there that need a more custom correction. RGP's will give you hyper clear vision correction.

I bet RGP lenses are good for the "oblique astigmatism" that durandetto mentioned.
