Contrary to the popular myth among patients, contact lenses do not 'just rip' when they are on your eye. Most common causes of a lens ripping are: 1) YOU damaged the edge when handling it and nicked it, thus compromising the lens. Don't dig for them with your fingertip or fingernails, pour em into the palm of your hand first. 2) YOU are wearing them longer than the replacement schedule recommended by your Dr or the Mfr.

Hey, don't be pointing fingers at ME, I only asked the question. I never even said it happened to me, I just asked if it ever really happened to anybody.

That being said, is this ripping phenomenon one of the reasons one should not over wear their contacts? What are some others. I think a lot of readers of Lens 101 think that this is just a myth and that it doesn't really matter how long you wear your contact lenses, as long as you're sincere.
