I just read about a type of contact lens I've never heard of before. It's called a crescent or translating contact lens. It's either bifocal or multi focal, I'm not sure. Maybe it's both.
Anyway, it's like a bifocal lens in that it has one zone for near vision and another for distance vision. The lower zone is crescent shaped, rather than straight across. This allows the contact lens to be aligned properly and it's less bother some if it does happen to get misaligned. Does anybody know anything more about these? |

I can tell you that these are typically bifocal contacts, with the distance part of the lens on the top and a crescent-shaped magnifying part on the bottom. This means that when looking straight ahead you can see in the distance and when looking down you can see close up for reading. This lens is also slightly flattened at the bottom, almost like a piece was sliced off. This helps the contact lens stay straight in your eye.
From what I've heard, this arrangement works well, but sometimes the distance vision isn't great. |
