Proclear Toric to Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism

Lets imagine that someone is currently using Proclear Toric contact lenses. Base curve 8.8 and diameter 14.4.
Now, she wants to try the Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism, but they only have a base curve of 8.6 and diameter of 14.5.

Does this mean she can't wear the Oasys? Are 8.8 / 8.6 and 14.4 / 14.5 close enough?

I have a Proclear Toric in my right eye and an Oasys for astigmitism in the left eye. The Oasys just didn't sit properly on my right eye so I went with the Proclear and I now have very good vision with no problems with the fit. My doc said there should be no problem using the different brands. You should try and get a trial lense(s) to experiment with your individual fit and vision of course. Good luck!

However my question was more about "fudging" with your prescription. If your prescription says 8.8 base curve, what does that mean if you want to get a special brand of contacts that only come in an 8.6? Is that like buying a size 8 shoe when you usually wear a size 9; uncomfortable but doable, or would it actually be harmful to wear contacts with even a slightly different base curve that the one you were prescribed?

I would think that when you ordered your contact lenses they would check with your eye doctor to confirm the prescription. That way the doc can either say "That's not what I prescribed. I wrote Proclear Toric, not Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism." or "Okay, that's close enough. Go ahead and give her the Acuvue Oasys."

I think you're right about that, Ragnarox. If someone were to order contact lenses other than what they were prescribed, it's possible that they will consult with the eye doc to make sure everything's on the up and up and it's quite possible that he or she will say "Sure, go ahead."
Most likely, though your prescription will specify a brand that offers the needed specifications.
