i can't say i prefer one over the other but there are some wearers that experiment wearing mono in one eye and multifocal in the other but you have to really talk to your optometrist about this as he would know which eye is more favourable for mono and multi.

That sounds very confusing. I think that if I needed monovision I'd try a pair of those first, and then try the multifocals.

Maybe that's just me.

I was reading another forum for industry types not me i'm "joe-consumer" and those guys experiment using mono vision and toric/multifocals etc in another eye but then again they know how to adjust their own eyes readings but i suppose it's not professional to advise the patients to do that as "law suits" could run high if anything happened to a patient's vision LOL

I am new to this forum and this is my first post; here goes:
I haven't tried the Purevision lenses, but I have tried Proclear Multifocal Astigmatic lenses. I tried that brand because I also suffer from dry eyes. After a couple of adjustments it just didn't work for me. I then tinkered with monovision because I wanted to be able to read as well, and didn't want to settle on just single vision correction. After many different experimental trials with several different powers in the "near"eye to give me a clearer midrange too, I settled on a combination of Oasys for Astigmitism for the near eye and a Proclear Toric for distance. This combination is working very well so far. The Proclear gives me excellent distance and the Oasys allowed acceptible reading along with a focused midrange. Both lenses are very comfortable and my eyes don't dry up after long days. I must say that my doctor was very patient and really worked with me to come up with this pairing. I really wanted the multifocals to work, but I am happy because this is a more economical solution with great vision as well. I hope you can find something that works for you, though it may test your sanity. Good Luck!-

What a great post, monovision! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you found something you like.

Now take a look around and see if you can help anybody else on this board. You're on a roll!

Hi - I am new to this board and new to contact lenses.

I am trying out CooperVision Proclear Multifocal Toric contacts. After a few days I got used to them and they are good for reading, computer use, TV and driving, but at night they become a big problem driving in that I see tail lights and traffic lights with big stars. I think they work best in really good light when the iris is closed and focus is tightly in the centre of the lens for distance. When it gets dark the image tends to "ghost".

I am also trying another set of Toric lens one eye for reading, one eye for distance. Great for driving and TV, but not so good for reading and computer work.

John

Bifocals would drive me crazy, props to anyone who enjoys wearing those things. It is just a little too confusing for me.

Wow, this has turned into quite a thread. It looks to me like monovision has a slight edge over multi-focal. Thank you everyone!

Hi, John. Are things getting better with you and your Proclear Multifocal contact lenses? How's the night driving?

Well it's been over a year now since I started with the Proclear Multifocal Toric contact lenses.

I have got used to the limitations now, but I still prefer not to drive too far in them at night as my multifocal toric glasses offer much better night vision.

I also prefer wearing my glasses to the movies, especially if there are sub titles.

I wear contacts all day almost every day, so by evening I am ready to rest my eyes and wear glasses anyway. After an hour or two rest I am happy to wear them all evening again.

If I am driving a short distance I wear the contacts and drive, but if driving further I wear the glasses and take my contacts along or ask my wife nicely to drive me home

I love the contacts for day wear, work, sports, the beach and outdoors generally. No constant glasses cleaning, rain spots, dust etc.

Maybe in future an better lens will be available to improve the night driving.
