Default Purevision Toric with Clear Care Solution

Ciba Clear Care (peroxide with neutralizer disc) was my preferred cleaning solution with my older contacts, but when I used it with Purevision I found that the lenses stuck to the basket and I almost had to peel them off. The lenses would tear after 8 days of use, and I thought this may be because of how much stress they suffered while I removed them. Does any of you have experience you can relate using Clear Care with Purevision?

Hi Ken, welcome to Lens 101.

I've never heard of contact lenses sticking like that. I have no idea if it's due to the solution or not, but I don't suppose trying a different kind of solution would hurt--as long as the two are compatible.
I found a website called www.staininggrid.com and it gives you a chart based on experiments with the different lenses and solutions. You want a combination that doesn't stain. The grid does not list Purevision Torics, but if you look at Purevision contact lenses, the most compatible solutions are Opti-Free, Opti-Free Replenish, and even Clear Care. Try the Opti-Free solutions and see if they work better.

I used Opti-Free when I started with Focus Day/Night and Frequency Vertex, but switched to Clear Care. The peroxide solution is peferable to the multipurpose solutions for various reasons. Ciba customer service said they are unaware of a problem, and I'm waiting to hear from B&L, but I suspect they will push Renu, their own solution. I am using that now, as recommended by my current doctor, but I still think Clear Care would give me more comfortable and longer wearing time, if I can figure out the tearing problem.

I've read a lot of good things on this site about Clear Care, but I can't say I've read about the lenses sticking to the basket like you said. I'm guessing that you don't have this sticking problem when you use Renu, since you didn't mention any problems other than the lenses aren't as comfortable to wear after using it.

I'm afraid I can't really offer you anything more helpful than that. I wish you well.

I used Clear Care with PureVision Toric lenses. I haven't had this problem. I'll run through my steps of usage to see if we're doing it the same:

I remove my right contact and place it inside the basket. Make sure it's centered. Snap it closed.
I remove my left contact and place it inside the basket. Make sure it's centered. Snap it closed.
Fill container to line with Clear Care solution.
Rinse for a couple seconds on both sides over the sink by spraying directly from the Clear Care bottle. Immediately place into container, twist shut, and set to the side.

In the morning I remove the top angling it so that one side faces up as I pull it out. I do this to try and get one contact to "let go" of the outside part of the basket and is hanging onto the inside part. This makes it an easy grab once I open up the basket as the part I need touching my finger is exposed and I get less of my fingers on the contact. If my eyes are feeling extra sensitive I'll rinse them with saline solution or my Aquasoft solution for extra lubrication before I open the basket. but I'll be mindful of the same concept: I use the liquid to get the contact free of the plastic basket and barely adhering to the rounded middle.

Then I repeat with the other eye.

Hope this helps and wasnt too confusing

Will you let us know how this works out, Ken? I'm sure there are many people out there that would benefit from your results. Thanks.
