Default If You're Not Comfortable, Don't Blame SofLens 38

This may be a tough question, but for those who are brave enough to step up and answer, here's what I like to know.

SofLens 59 is a good contact lens. Maybe not the greatest, but still quite good. Still some people complain that they're too dry, too uncomfortable, difficult to handle, etc.

It has been brought to my attention that one of the biggest reasons for contact lenses feeling uncomfortable is what the medical profession calls "non compliance." In other words, sometimes patients don't follow instructions and as a result, don't use the contacts in the way they were intended.

How often is this the case? Did you ever complain to your eye doc about how uncomfortable your SofLens 59 contacts are, then he pointed out that you're only supposed to wear them for two weeks, not a month?

Be brave. Fess up.

soflense 59 is a good contact lens? are you joking?

i think anyone who has a little knowladge about contaca lens won't agree.

first, its terrible central thickness is 0.14 mm, what does it mean? it's 4 times thicker than soflens 38 (0.035mm), 2 times thicker than acuvue (0.07mm). this will definitely cause uncomfort.

otherwise, because of its terrible thickness, its dk factor is quite low, only 22 dk/t, soflens 38 is 27 dk/t, acuvue is 40 dk/t.

so, do you want to put this thick, low breathable lens into your eyes?

Man, you really had me going until you said "uncomfort." I don't know about you, but my computer keeps underlining the word "uncomfort" in red as a way of telling me I've got the wrong word in there. Do you see that, too?

With all of your talk about center thickness and dk/t, you sound like you know what you're talking about in general, though. I've never tried these myself, I'm just going by my research on line at product review sites and such. Most people seem to like these contact lenses.

So you're saying that even with good compliance, these are still lousy contact lenses?

Because most consumers don't have professional knowledge, second, most of them don't try many brands of contact lense, third, the manufacturer always uses very attracting words to advertise. It's useless to argue about this in the forum, in your daily life, if you know any professional opticians, I think he/she will explain to you.

Oh, I don't know how "useless" this line of correspondence is. If these contacts lenses were completely awful and no one would disagree, then no one would wear them and they'd be pulled from the market, wouldn't they? I'm sure someone could come along and tell us how much they like their SofLens 59 contact lenses. That would be useful.

Anyway, thank you for your valuable input. I guess it proves that Lens 101 isn't a site full of "yes men" who will just tell you how wonderful every pair of contact lenses is.

Hello Alecchong

I was very interested in your post re the Dk/t values and lens thickness. Clearly these are very relevant to the informed reader/lens wearer who may wish to screen different lenses before trying (subject to medical fitting).

However, not all manufacturers quote Dk values (though the generic Dk value can usually be obtained with knowledge of the lens material) and very few seem to quote Dk/t values. Lens centre thickness is also very seldom quoted.

Have you got a link as to where this info is posted or do you have to contact the manufacturers directly, etc?

Thanks

knotlob
