Default ADD High/ADD Low

I have used "Soflens" Multi-focal for few years now, but yesterday got my new prescription. I noticed one of them has ADD Low and the other ADD High, this is the first time I see that on my box, unfortunately I have trashed my old box and labels... My concerns?!! I find that the right eye does not focus as sharp as the other, what should I do?. Could that be a mistake ?

It could be, I would immediately consult your physician, that would be my advice.

psimonk is right. Talk to your doctor as soon as you can so that if it's a mistake, they can correct it right away.

Add high is stronger than add low, so things will appear clearer near. But the trade off is you lose some distance vision. Add low lets you see some things up close and allowing more distance.

For instance, when I wear muli focal contacts with add low while driving, I can see the road ahead pretty good, but my dash is a tiny bit fuzzy. But when I wear add high contacts my dash is perfectly clear but the road ahead is fuzzy.

It is all a trade off, unlike what the contact lens manufactures say in their advertisements.

I just got contacts today. I got the multifocal lenses, with one ADD high and the other ADD low. This is interesting. Since I have only been in them for 3 hours, I don't have much to comment on yet. I can read with them, one better then the other, and distance is good, other better then one.

My first post! SofLens multi-focal (-2.50, -2.75 with low add) worked for me till I turned 47. Then, reading text on the iPhone became a problem. After much experimentation, I settled down on -2.50 High Add (Left Eye) and -2.75 Low Add (Right Eye). This seems to work fine. My dominant Right Eye takes over with the Low Add for distance vision, while my Left Eye with the High Add takes over for reading. I've lost a little bit of sharpness on distance, but the convenience is worth the compromise. I suppose no multi-focal lens will give you the distance vision of a single focal lens.

My Base Curve is 8.8, so PureVision is not an option. The maximum period that I can wear SofLens is 3 weeks with nightly removal and disinfecting. I use ClearCare (Hydrogen Peroxide) which eliminates the allergies that I encountered with other chemical based solutions.

Hope this information helps. This is a great forum. BTW, I've been on contact for 20+ years, starting with old gas permeables!

Hi fxcon. I noticed that you said this is your first post. I hope it won't be your last. Thank you for the good information and personal experience.

Hi cmw70200.

I noticed that this is also your first post and I want to welcome you to Lens 101. I'm afraid I don't know much about multi-focal contact lenses, but it looks like you've been helped, so I don't feel so bad. I hope you've been inspired to ask more questions or even help others with their questions.

What happened fxcon? Your 20+ years of contact lens experience would be very helpful around here. I hope we hear from you again.
