Default Handling Soflens 66 Multifocal with Tweezers

I read something by a guy who insists on using special rubber-tipped tweezers when handling Soflens 66 Multifocal contacts.

Is this really necessary? Would the oil on your skin damage contacts in some way?

He also says that the contact lenses should be carefully inspected for any kind of spot or blemish if they feel uncomfortable. He seems to believe that if you clean your contacts really, really, really well, you should have no problems with discomfort.

What do you, the Internet-surfing, contact-lens-wearing people, think about this?

I have been a contact lens wearer since 1983 and have used rubber tipped tweezers for as long as I can remember. They keep dirt and lint off the lens and make it easy to transfer the lens to a dry fingertip for placement into my eye. They are made by Bausch & Lomb but I don't remember where I bought them. My eye doctor thinks it's funny that I use them but I insist. I have also noticed the glue on the lens package can sometimes transfer to a lens if you are not careful. I always take my new lenses from their package and put them in my plastic lens case full of fresh saline for transfer to my eyes. I use Renu for cleaning and storage.

I am new here but feel free to ask me anything about contact lenses. I have been a happy wearer for over 25 years.

P.S. My eye doctor tried to put me in bifocal lenses but they didn't work for me so I use regular lenses and reading glasses if I really need them which I still try to avoid.

Tweezers work really well, but I actually don't use them ever, though it is a great idea. ^^

Thank you for such a good answer HappySillyFace. Are you still using those tweezers? Also, have you given bifocal contacts another try? Maybe you can use Lens 101 to help you decide which pair to experiment with. Let me know, okay? I'll try not to wait so long before I reply.
