I'm not an eye doctor, ReTina, but I do have Internet access. (Here I am striking a heroic pose.) However, my access to the Internet has not given me any reliable information about astigmatism that "heals" on its own. There are plenty of people out there who are willing to sell you "exercises" or herbal remedies for astigmatism, but their effectiveness is questionable at best.

I think I would rather continue to wear the toric lenses rather than waste time and money on "exercises."

I'm not necessarily talking about exercises. I mean astigmatism that starts out at one point, then maybe gets worse, and then fades until the person is no longer astigmatic.

You mean "can a person's astigmatism 'heal' on it's own without any kind of exercises or potions?"

Yes, that's it. Can you be told you have astigmatism, do nothing and then get examined a year later and it's gone?

I suppose it's possible, but I'd be more inclined to believe that it might get better, but I don't think it will heal completely.
I just thought of this, though. Astigmatism comes in two flavors, corneal and lenticular. I wonder if one of those does have a tendency to heal on its own?

I think you're right Slitheen. At least you can be pretty confident that the contact lenses will help your vision.

That's a good question, Slitheen. The other question is--will anyone answer it here?

I'll take a swing at it. (I can't wait for baseball to start.)

I looked it up in Google, but all I found was several websites that said that one cannon outgrow astigmatism in most cases. It does happen, but that sort of spontaneous correction is rare.

I tried looking up the phrase "astigmatism healed" but most of the results I found were stories of people being miraculously healed. I don't think that's what ReTina had in mind.

You're right, Goliath2001. I was really looking for something that talked about someone who slowly began to realize that their vision was getting better.
